Cumbria Ore Mines Rescue Unit (COMRU)

COMRU as we are today have been operating as a separate team within the Lake District Mountain Accidents Association (LDMAA) since the 1980s to deal exclusively with mine rescue incidents. Being staffed entirely of voluntary members not only from Mountain Rescue Teams (MRTs) but also experienced cavers and mining enthusiasts who give the team the ability to respond 365 days a year 24 hours a day.

COMRU has an agreed responsibility to support the areas of Cumbria (including the Lake District), Southern Scotland, Teesdale, Weardale, North Lancashire border and the North Yorkshire border, however, we have a UK wide responsibility if requested, including the Isle of Man.

COMRU is a member of Lake District Search & Mountain Rescue Association (LDSAMRA) and is affiliated to Mountain Rescue England & Wales (MREW) and British Cave Rescue Council.
